Bunnies for Easter

So every year around Easter, I see articles trying to get people to consider carefully before rashly running out and buying a bunny for their kids. I totally get that!!! This year, though, I've seen it said a couple times that most bunnies are antisocial and don't like being held! That's actually wrong, so I decided to make my own list of things to remember before getting a bunny!
  • Bunnies are actually extremely SOCIAL animals, a bit like dogs. You just need to make sure you give them attention and not totally ignore them all the time. If you ignore a bunny, of course he's not going to like you very much and be likely to bite you when you decide to pick him up! Just because rabbits are in cages, doesn't mean they're just for looking at and ignoring all the time. Rabbits are like any other living thing; they need love and attention!
  • Bunnies can live an average of 7-10 years, so be prepared for a long-term commitment, and make sure you're up to giving one of these wonderful little animals a long, happy life.
  • Rabbits need exercise. Without it, they will get fat, and depressed (would you like to be cooped up in a cage all of the time?)
  • Bunnies aren't terribly expensive, but be prepared to pay for some things: the food we buy for our bunnies isn't cheap because it's the best for them. Never settle for food that's not night, just because it's cheaper. Although I don't think you need to be taking your rabbits to the vet all of the time, check with a vet to see what brand and type of food they think is best.
  • Get several rabbit books so that you'll be totally filled in on them. :)
  • NEVER buy an animal on an impulse.
  • Finally, JUST ENJOY!!! There are a lot of different breeds, colors, and sizes of rabbits, and they're so cute and sweet.

  1. aw I was totally thinking of getting a bunny on an impulse! ;) jk I don't think it'd be a good idea for me to get a bunny because Nina would probably try to eat it... :-/ but they're totally cute!
